Myself with my Niece - able to be here because I was proactive in testing myself for breast cancer

On Sept 6th I had found a lump in my left breast. Within weeks of doctors' appointments, tests and x-rays, I had surgery to remove a huge tumor, which was rapidly growing. The lump being benign was a blessing - it made me appreciate life more and made me appreciate those who are "walking" for such an important cure. My heart goes out to those who have had breast cancer and those who are touched emotionally by it through friends and family. This scare has helped me realize that life is short and that the Komen Foundation is truly one of the most important foundations, helping those who need a Cure!
